Tennis in the Schools Celebration 2024

May 6th was LYTA’s final school event at the new $25 million North Charleston Sports Complex. A great shout out to all our parents, children, teachers, facility staff and LYTA members who have helped this year be so successful.

At the celebration it was all hands on deck in the new gymnasium with USTA orange and red ball activities. K-2 players worked on learning and having fun and 3-5 played multiple games to see who would be the final season winners.

After gift, trophy and certificate presentations Michael Gillison received an award for his support of tennis at the facility over the years. Joanna Sumney, the deputy assistant to North Charleston Mayor Burgess proclaimed May 2024 as Tennis Month for the counties of Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester and the state of South Carolina.

LYTA continued with its 2nd year of support of its “Play More Tennis” program by awarding all 3 – 5th grade students six free tennis lessons with the local professional tennis coach Peggy Bachofner.

No tennis event would be complete without delicious ice-cream for everyone. We hope that students can join us for the tennis camp at Dunston Elementary from June 17 – 27.
