The Lowcountry Youth Tennis Association (LYTA) will be having elections in December for incumbent and new board directors. We are looking for candidates who have an interest in growing youth tennis in the tri-county area, with an emphasis on underserved communities. LYTA was founded in 2013 and is a 501(C)(3) charity organization.
The LYTA promotes and supports tennis in schools as well as after-school programs. It provides support to the Charleston Recreation Department’s Elementary and Middle School League and to Courting Kids, another non-profit. It runs clinics for PE teachers and other youth tennis providers, runs several junior tournaments, and provides scholarships for kids to take tennis lessons. And in LYTA’s belief in the “village” that supports youth, LYTA also runs an annual Teacher Appreciation Tournament.
The LYTA board is not just a supervisory board. It plans, manages, and executes its programs and activities in a hands-on fashion, with directors putting their sneakers on the court, so to speak.
So, if you have an interest in being an active board member for an organization devoted to bringing tennis to kids and can attend our monthly Zoom meetings, please contact the person below and tell us about yourself, your interest in tennis for kids, and what you can bring to the board in terms of knowledge, skills, and leadership. The board’s Nominating Committee will follow up with you.
