A Mount Pleasant youth tennis team has earned a bid to the Junior Team Tennis Nationals this month in Orlando, Fla.
The local 14-and-under advanced team received a wildcard berth into the national tournament after placing second overall against nine different states in the United States Tennis Association Southern Sectionals last month in Rome, Ga.
The team won the South Carolina state tournament in Florence a month earlier, as well as the Charleston district tournament last February in Wild Dunes on Isle of Palms.
“We are really honored to be a part of Mount Pleasant,” said coach Heather Chadwick. “And will represent Mount Pleasant well at nationals.”
The seven-player co-ed lineup includes Evan Burgess, Emma Chadwick, Karson Powers and Lily Zimmerman from the Wando tennis team. As well as Oceanside’s Haagen Williams, and home-schoolers Joshua Gianelli and Elena McCoy. Hilton Reynolds and Cario’s Grace Berchtold are also on the team.
The Junior Tennis team national tournament will be played at the USTA National Tennis Center Sept. 21-25.
