LYTA - Dunston Academic Tennis Camp - 2023
Week 1
LYTA’S Matilda Dunston Academic Summer Camp finishes week one. What a successful week we had! Students learned basic tennis shots, used the Billy Jean King Eye Coach to hone their hitting skills and had fun playing tennis. They also participated in Charleston County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program and had extra math and reading instruction from two of Matilda Dunston’s teachers. Thursday they participated in the USTA’s Team Challenge which highlights students working together in teams, cheering each other on and playing fun games.
See you next Monday for our last week. PS New players from K – 5 from any school are welcome. 9 – 12 Monday – Thursday.
Week 2
Dear tennis camp parents,
We would like to thank you for sharing your child/children with us during the camp. It has been a pleasure for us to teach tennis and educational content. Students received exceptional math and reading instruction from Ms. Meelan and Ms. Huger every day. We have been following the USTA’s format called 10 and Under Tennis which is used for matches and fun games throughout the United States. This format includes the use of smaller rackets, courts and balls that are easier for young players to hit. Students have also been reading for 30 minutes every day which we hope they will continue with throughout the summer.
Congratulations to all our students who have been working very hard and having lots of fun. We are seeing exceptional gains in tennis skills that students can use moving forward. Next year the Danny Jones Facility should be open for us to have a Dunston Tennis Team also open for families to go to and have fun together.
Thanks John
